Boats turned for winter – quiet shores and the wait for snow

10/11/2025
The lakes are glazing over, and nature takes a quiet pause between seasons. It’s the calm before winter, when the air turns crisp and the first snow begins to settle in Hossa and Kylmäluoma.

The boats have been turned for winter, and a peaceful stillness has settled over the shores. A thin layer of ice shimmers on the water in the morning sun. Fishing, too, is on pause – it’s no longer boating season, yet still too early for ice fishing.

This time of year is like a deep breath in nature’s rhythm. The forests grow quiet, and the wind blows cold across the lakes. It’s a moment to pause, breathe, and wait to see what the coming winter will bring.

First ice and the wait for snow

During the day, the sun still peeks out for a while, but evenings fall quickly into darkness. The first snow has arrived, and temperatures hover around zero. With the snow, the surroundings of the trekking centres transform once again into a winter wonderland.
When the lakes freeze solid, the ice fishing season begins. Before that, it’s the perfect time to check your gear and plan your winter adventures – or book your favourite cabin for the coming holidays.
The cabins in both Hossa and Kylmäluoma are available for rent throughout the winter.
