A Frosty Morning at Kylmäluoma

A frosty morning at Kylmäluoma does not make noise.
It is calm and unhurried, a kind of morning where snow softens even the smallest sounds and the forest seems to pause.

The sky is pale and softly clouded. The frost is just enough to be felt on your cheeks, while mittens keep your fingers comfortably warm. The forest is covered in hoarfrost, branches carrying a light layer of white, and the landscape is beautiful in all shades of white and grey.

Great spotted woodpeckers flutter from tree to tree in short bursts, appearing briefly before disappearing again into the forest. Frost cracks quietly in the trees, as if the forest itself were breathing. From time to time, the deep, hollow tapping of woodpeckers breaks the stillness and carries gently through the winter air.

There are no deep snowdrifts. Walking on the ice is pleasant, step by step, at your own pace. The frozen lake opens wide and calm, and moving across it feels light and effortless. There is no need to hurry anywhere.

Winter at Kylmäluoma invites you to do just as much as you feel like doing.
You can go ice fishing, sit quietly by the hole in the ice and simply observe the surroundings. Sitting by a campfire completes the day – the fire crackles softly, coffee steams, and the frost feels good when you can warm your hands against the flames.

There are many ways to enjoy the outdoors. Snowshoes take you deeper into the forest, away from the trails, where space opens up around you. And if you do not have your own equipment, snowshoes can be rented at Kylmäluoma, making it easy to head out.

As the day turns into evening, the atmosphere changes once more. In the pitch-dark winter night, northern lights may appear in the sky. Photos taken in the darkness are slightly soft and hazy, shaped by the clouds of a frosty night – much like the moment itself. The lights move gently across the sky, glowing and fading again. They are easy to watch, simply standing still, eyes turned upward.

Nights in the cabins at Kylmäluoma are completely dark, and sleep comes easily. Curtains are not needed, and in the morning it feels just right to wake up slowly as daylight begins to fill the room. The day does not start with an alarm clock, but with light.

At Kylmäluoma, it is easy to live without schedules. The day follows your own rhythm: you eat when you are hungry, go outside when you feel like it, and rest when your body asks for it. There is no need to rush or perform.

Log cabins have a warm and peaceful atmosphere. The scent of wood, the quiet surroundings and the presence of winter make the space feel welcoming. The sauna can be heated whenever it feels right – in the evening, after outdoor activities, or even in the middle of the day. And after the sauna, there is nowhere you need to go.

Winter at Kylmäluoma does not require big events.
Experiences are found in the space around you, the freedom to move, breathe and pause.
A frosty morning, a winter day and a sense of calm go a long way.

Ahveninen Wilderness Hut – Embraced by Silence and Nature

By the lakeside, in the midst of Kylmäluoma’s rugged landscapes, stands a log-built hut where time itself seems to pause.

The nearest neighbor is far away, and the rush of everyday life never reaches here.

Only the surface of the lake sparkles in the sun, and the forest hums in the background. Fallen trees from the Paula storm remind visitors of the immense power of nature, but also of its strength and resilience.

Inside the cabin, everything is simple and calm. One room with a wide lofted sleeping platform – mattresses and blankets ready for rest. As evening falls, warmth spreads from the wood stove, and light comes only from candles. Water is carried from the lake, meals are prepared on the stove, the gas hob, or by the glow of an open fire, and the day ends with a sauna a short walk away. The water pot starts to bubble, the stove radiates heat, and the cool embrace of the lake soon calls you in.

Here, everyday routines turn into simple rituals. Brewing morning coffee becomes a moment to focus on in a way that never happens at home. After the sauna, you can sit on the porch steps, watch the sun sink behind the lake, and feel the day slowly fade into evening. Nature is present in every moment – it is easy to fall into its rhythm.

Ahveninen is a wilderness hut without electricity or running water, but it offers so much more: peace, space to breathe, and the chance to be truly far away from it all.
