Wintertime Hossa is quiet, clear and inviting. The snow-covered national park offers space to breathe, to move at your own pace and to enjoy nature without hurry. In Hossa, winter is not just scenery – it is a complete experience: footsteps in the snow, frost-covered trees and peaceful breaks in the heart of the national park.

Maintained wilderness trails during the winter season

The wilderness trails leading to Muikkupuro and Värikallio have been restored, and Metsähallitus maintains the routes throughout the winter season. This makes moving along the trails safe and enjoyable even in winter conditions.

You can explore the trails at your own pace – on foot, on skis or with snowshoes. The maintained wilderness trails make Hossa an excellent destination for both short winter outings and longer wilderness adventures. Winter cycling is also popular on the wilderness trails.

Muikkupuro – an easy and rewarding winter destination

Muikkupuro is well suited for a shorter winter excursion or a peaceful stop in the middle of nature. The distance from the parking area is about 1.5 kilometres one way, making the destination easily accessible even in winter conditions.

In winter, the Muikkupuro area offers beautiful scenery, a calm forest atmosphere and a pleasant place to stop and enjoy the quiet.

Värikallio – a longer winter trek into the peace of the wilderness

A trip to Värikallio is a longer winter experience. The route is approximately 7 kilometres round trip, leading visitors deeper into the winter wilderness.

The trail rewards hikers with peace, scenery and a unique atmosphere. Wintertime Värikallio offers an experience where hurry fades away and nature takes the leading role.

Pack snacks and take time to be

A winter trip in Hossa is not a performance, but an opportunity to pause. Pack some snacks, sit down at a rest spot and let nature take care of you. The atmosphere of the national park is created by small things – silence, a winter forest and moments when there is nowhere you need to be.
